My camping days started many years ago when I was just little, and since growing into an avid camper as an adult I’ve learnt a few key things. One is that the most hassling part of camp is the setup time. Two is that tents seem a lot more spacious when you’re a kid.
The Kamp-Rite Oversize Tent Cot is one of the best camping cots with a tent structure add-on in the market, because it’s designers have created it with those two key things in mind. This camping cot review has been compiled to give you a complete understanding of what the Kamp-Rite Oversize Tent Cot can offer you as either a solo camper or even as a couple.
A decent place to sleep at night is important when you’re camping and that’s where the mattress, camping cot or sleeping pad dilemma comes in. For our own part we greatly prefer camping cots, and when it comes to ingenious design, this Kamp-Rite model definitely takes the cake.
Introducing The Kamp-Rite Oversize Tent Cot
The Kamp-Rite Tent Cot combine both a tent and a cot into one. The cot is fully framed and surrounded with a nylon exterior that uses tie-up mesh doors as access points. There are also a couple of mesh windows thrown in to accommodate air flow in warmer climates.
The legs of the Kamp-Rite stretch up a full 11 inches from the ground, providing an effective vacuum of space between the grounds moisture, insects and other undesirables and your comfortable sleeping spot.
More importantly, the cot is spacious and comfortable, with ample room for a full grown adult (or a cramped couple) to stretch out at night. The oversize Kamp-Rite is 12 inches bigger than the orginial sized Kamp-Rite which makes it perfect for taller users.
When setting up camp for the night you’ll literally only have one essential item to setup. All you’ll need to do is find a level area of terrain, setup the cot and chuck in your sleeping bag.
As an added plus, the Kamp-Rite can also be disassembled into a ‘regular’ camping cot which will allow you to enjoy an evening staring up and the stars when it is a clear and warm night.
It’s nice to have the options of both closed and open versions with this cot.
What We Like
The Kamp-Rite Tent Cot's frame is constructed out of aluminium – a metal known for its weight to strength ratio. By using that metal the creators of the Kamp-Rite have made their cot both durable and easy to carry around.
Even the nuts of the Kamp-Rite are made from aluminium, helping to ensure that they don’t rust when you go out camping in harsher wet weather conditions. Oh, they’re anti-vibration nuts too! This makes for a ‘non-riggidy’ sleeping environment.
The outer shell of the tent when fully zipped up is completely insect proof, something which reviewers in mosquito ridden areas have found particularly helpful. Fortunately, parts of the tent are meshed so even when it’s all zipped up there is still plenty of air flow.
The fabric of the actual cot, the part you’ll be sleeping on, is also built to last with a high quality Cordura nylon type fabric having been used.
We especially love that this camping cot comes with its own custom made heavy-duty carry bag. As the cot is relatively large compared to other cots it could have been difficult to find an appropriate bag. Owners appreciate that it simply comes with one.
Another thing to like about the Kamp-Rite is that it comes with a full one-year warranty against any issues. As always a warranty is a good indication that the manufacturer themselves believes in the quality and durability of their product.
Reviewers love that the Kamp-Rite Oversize Tent is big enough to share with others. The sleeping space is approximately 32 inches by 90 inches meaning you could be a cozy adult couple or a safe parent and child combo.
For parents whose children are still getting used to sleeping out among the elements or sleeping on their own, it’s invaluable to have a camping cot that they can come join you on when the need arises.
What We Don’t Like
This oversize tent doesn’t have a lot of negatives, but we will say that some people are disappointed it hasn’t been made even bigger. The Kamp-Rite has enough room for approximately one and a half adults to sleep comfortable. Why didn’t they make it two?
Apart from the size complaint, there is also the setup hassle. For those who are going to be setting up a whole different tent anyway (in addition to their Kamp-Rite) the hassle simply may not be worth it. Although the Kamp-Rite is easy to setup, most of its purpose is defeated if you place it within a bigger tent anyway.
The Kamp-Rite Oversize Tent Cot is available from a wide number of retailers both online and in store. We recommend Amazon as the best place to buy this particular camping cot because of their competitive pricing and shipping policies. It’s always nice to have the items you purchase turn up right on your front doorstep.
Amazon regularly scans its site for bad retailers and review stars are a fairly reliable way to gage an item. The Kamp-Rite Oversize Tent Cot stays firmly in the 4-5 star category, making it a great buy.
This camping cot is simply not like other cots – really it is a tent and cot rolled into one. Awesome!
All things said, the Kamp-Rite Oversize Tent Cot will either appeal to your greatly (and we imagine it will to most people) or it simply won’t. For those who love the idea of a quick camp setup with a durable trustworthy item, the Kamp-Rite is absolutely perfect.
